To put this into perspective, most events are a bit like a 100-metre final with Usain Bolt running against seven runners who didn’t qualify for the final. Hi-Tec has joined the fight against crime on Table Mountain by donating their hiking boots to the team of rangers dispatched to arrest criminals and protect visitors. Every year Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) welcomes 3.7-million visitors. Where there is an abundance of mobile phones, cameras, wallets and bicycles, there are criminals who want in. Although incidents are proportionally few, even one mugging is too many and with this in mind TMNP has stepped up security by posting armed rangers throughout the Park.
When seven-time Dusi Canoe Marathon winner, Martin Dreyer, started his Change a Life (CAL) Academy in 2009, his focus was on the discipline of paddling and preparing athletes from the Dusi Valley for competitive kayak racing.
